Autonomously Managed Zone (AMZ) Definition

SmartMIB uniquely allows network administrators to logically break large networks

into a number of Autonomously Managed Zones (AMZ) to allow for a more scaled and consistent approach to management in terms of applying specific management processes to particular Zones and in accordance to pre-defined management policies. At the same time administrators could allow certain access rights and controls to different SmartMIB Users, with each user administering their own respective AMZ.

To allow for a full scalability of management solutions; AMZs could further be segmented over multiple management areas or alternatively could be described as a sub-zone. At the management area level; different statistics could be polled from devices within a single management area for an enhanced and guaranteed overall performance by timing device polls in a way that doesn’t overload those very devices being managed or for simply for Security reasons and considerations. A management area could also be used as a logical subset of a particular AMZ. This further solidifies and simplifies the design and implementation of management processes.

A typical Zone grouping would be a grouping of those devices located in a certain physical location or else a grouping of devices of certain type, or according to functionality in the network such as Layer 2 versus Layer 3 device types. Grouping could also be achieved across all network devices per interface type, that is applying a certain management process for example to all FastEthernet interfaces on each of the devices.

Zone grouping could be applied to the overall or parts of the network according to  services running, resources availability and consumption, and events.
