SmartMIB Professional Solution:

Network Element’s Fault Management

(SM-Pro-Fault)

(SM-ProUpd-Fault)

(SM-ProPlus-Fault)

Solution’s Alarms and Thresholds:

Threshold detection points could be set according to pre-calculated optimal  operational measurement values representing may be Service Level Agreements and expectations where  violations could be reported in Real-time messages as well as in final history reports.

The Fault management script defines the following threshold conditions:

Data

Threshold Description

bufferFail and bufferNoMem

Number of device buffer memory allocation and creation failures respectively.

Ø      Buffer Allocation failure alarm. If the number of allocation failures exceeds 5 hits within the specified period (15 minutes) an alarm is to be generated.

Ø      Buffer Creation failure alarm. If the number of Creation failure exceeds 1 hit within the specified period (15 minutes) an alarm is to be generated.

dot3StatsCarrierSenseErrors

Number of times a carrier sense condition is lost (or not asserted).

Ø      Carrier sense loss alarm. If the number of carrier sense loss conditions exceeds 2 hits within the specified period (15 minutes); this alarm is to be generated

dot3StatsDeferredTransmissions

Number of delayed frame transmissions due to medium unavailability. No specific Threshold values are specified; it is up to the administrator(s) to monitor those objects

dot3StatsExcessiveCollisions

Number of frame transmission failures due to excessive collisions.

Ø      Excessive collisions alarm. If the number of collision exceeds 0.2% of the total number of outbound packets within the specified period (15 minutes); this alarm is to be generated

dot3StatsInternalMacReceiveErrors

Number of incoming frame failures received due to an internal MAC sub layer errors.

Ø      MAC sub layer receive errors alarm. If the number of failures exceeds 1% of the total number of incoming frames within the specified period (15 minutes); this alarm is to be generated

dot3StatsInternalMacTransmitErrors

Number of outgoing frame to be transmitted failures due to an internal MAC sub layer errors.

Ø      MAC sub layer transmit errors alarm. If the number of failures exceeds 1% of the total number of outgoing frames within the specified period (15 minutes); this alarm is to be generated

locIfCarTrans, locIfCollisions,

locIfInCRC, and locIfResets

The number of Carrier transition, collisions, CRC errors, and resets seen on the particular interface. No specific Threshold values are specified; it is up to the administrator(s) to monitor those objects
