MIB Event Wizard:

This Process provides a procedure to program network devices to monitor specific MIB Objects and to initiate Notifications whenever pre-determined Trigger conditions are met.

The result of such Events setup is the creation of a new Custom-Defined SNMP Notifications that can be considered like any other SNMP Notification launched by the SNMP Agent of the particular device.

This Process provides a procedure to create expressions on the network devices supporting the industry standard EVENT-MIB. Steps to build a MIB Event:

STEP 1 

Selecting the Event Trigger Network Device

STEP 2 

Creating the Event Trigger Name and Owner

STEP 3 

Creating the Event Trigger Owner

STEP 4 

Specifying the SNMP MIB object to monitor

                   Note:

                   The MIB Object identifier may or may NOT be fully qualified.

                   If its not fully qualified; then the Object’s Wild Card should be set.

STEP 5 

Event Object Wild Card Setting

Note:

The Event Object Wild Card setting depends on the Object identifier instancing; if its NOT fully instanced, the Object wild Card should be set to “True”.

STEP 6 

Event Object Test Criteria

                   Note:

                   The Event Trigger test to perform on the Event trigger Object.

                   They are either:

• Existence
• Boolean
• Threshold

STEP 7 

Event Object Sample Frequency

                   Note:

                   The number of seconds between trigger Event Object samples.

                   The default is 60 seconds.

STEP 8 

Event Object Sample Type

                   Note:

                   The Event Object Sampling method is either an ‘AbsoluteValue’

                   representing the current Object value or a ‘DeltaValue’ representing

                   the difference between two concurrent instances of the Object.
