Small Solution:
TCP General Traffic &
Error Statistics
(SM-SmallSol00016)
Solution
Overview:
This management
solution focuses on monitoring ONLY the overall TCP sessions statistics for TCP
session connections established against the particular network element being
polled.
The solution
defines a module name and description, then initiates the polling process under
which the managed Devices are fed into the polling SNMP engine, where all active
TCP connections statistics are collected and a history of overall sessions
statistics are kept for future baselining of network activities.
The user has the
choice to graph all of the following calculated objects:
-
tcpActiveOpens
and tcpPassiveOpens: representing the
number of TCP connections that transitioned from SYN-SENT state into CLOSED
and SYN-RCVD state into LISTEN state respectively.
-
tcpAttemptFails:
representing the number of TCP connections that transitioned from SYN-SENT or
SYN-RCVD states into the CLOSED state and from the SYN-RCVD state into the
LISTEN state.
-
tcpEstabResets:
representing the number of TCP connections that transitioned from the
ESTABLISHED or CLOSE-WAIT states to the CLOSED state.
-
tcpCurrEstab:
representing the number of TCP connections where the current state is either
ESTABLISHED or CLOSE-WAIT.
-
tcpInSegs
and tcpOutSegs: representing the total
number of segments received and the total number of segments sent (excluding
the segments containing only retransmitted octets) respectively.
-
tcpRetransSegs:
representing the number of retransmitted segments including segments with one
or more retransmitted octets.
-
tcpInErrs:
representing the number of segments received in error.
-
tcpOutRsts:
representing the number of segments sent containing the RST flag.
