Active (detected) IP & MAC Addresses Report

Solution Introduction & Overview:

This Small management solution provides an application that learns and then reports the active network nodes and elements by MAC and IP addresses. This is done by learning the ARP tables on those Gateways. 

The main goal of the management process is to report the list of active (used) IP addresses on the network and to provide an inventory of connected network nodes by the MAC/IP address combinations.

The solution presentation is based on the MIB-II which in turn is based on the IETF standard MIB RFC1213 which includes the objects necessary to maintain the interface statistics.

This small management solution focuses on managing ONLY those network elements that are configured as network Gateways as is set by the network administrator on the managed network devices.

The solution defines a set of modules that reads the MIB interface table of the managed elements and then polls the ARP table on those elements determined to be Gateways.
