Active Asynchronous Interface Type Counts
(SM-SmallSol0035)
Solution Introduction & Overview:
This small management solution provides an application that learns and then targets specific network interfaces of a particular type and polls their current operational statuses counting those interfaces that are operational. The application solutions namely targets Asynchronous interfaces and counts those that are operational at each specific polling instance.
This small management solution addresses the issue of baselining resource consumption levels and resource utilization of the network access services. It enables the administrators to gauge the current versus futuristic needs and usage trends which is essential in planning for change and in increasing availability.
The solution presentation is based on the MIB-II which in turn is based on the IETF standard MIB RFC1213 which includes the objects necessary to maintain the interfaces status information.
This small management solution focuses on managing ONLY those interfaces that are NOT in an administrative down state as is set by the network administrator on the managed network devices. The solution defines a set of modules that reads the MIB interface tables of the managed elements and filters those interfaces that are of type ‘Async’.
The user can then graph the dbModemCount calculated database object to gauge the above mentioned baselining of Dialup access resources.
