Installing SmartMIB Small Solution Software

1.  Its important to note that TWO main - separate and independent - components need to be installed: the SmartMIB Setup Engine and then the desired Incremental Solution Package (Small Solution) that sits on top of the SmartMIB Setup Engine.

2.  The SmartMIB Setup Engine (or the Core Engine) need only be installed ONCE and before installing any of the Incremental Solution Packages.

3.  Once the SmartMIB Setup Engine is installed, any one of the Incremental Solution Packages (Small Solutions) can now be installed.

4.  Note that more than one small solution can be added on top of another small solution as every incremental package contains its solution-specific parameters and data. However at the start of an evaluation process, we STRONGLY recommend the installation, and the run of each desired small solution separately to simplify the evaluation task. Installing and running too many solutions at the same time and at an early stage in the evaluation might cause the evaluator to lose sight of, for example, which script is contributing to which report or to which graph. As the evaluator progresses and gains the feel and experience of the overall solution, it will become quickly apparent how easy it is to manage many solutions at the same time.

5.  To evaluate incremental solutions independently:

         ■ Simply install the first desired incremental package,

         ■ Go to the Inventory and populate it with the test devices

         ■ Run the management processes from the processes Toolbar button. And;

         ■ 'Preview' the relevant reports and graphs under the Reports and Graphs buttons respectively.

6.      Before installing a second solution to test: go to Start --> SmartMIB Configuration and fill the required DB related Data and click on 'Create Database' (this will recreate the SmartMIB IMMS Database ONLY). If you get any database errors then please check your machines Task Manager for any running SmartMIB process and End them before starting a NEW SmartMIB Configuration and 'Create Database'.

7.      Please note that installing our SmartMIB Setup Engine should only take 20 minutes. If it is taking longer then you are doing something wrong and you would be better off letting us know about any possible errors encountered so we can quickly advise you on what to do! 8.      One final issue to note here is that the GUI is separate from the Core Setup Engine. So, in the unlikely event that, for example, the GUI crashes for any reason, the Engine and Database would still be intact. This is due to the fact that our software is highly modular in design and the GUI communicates to other specialist modules via an internal bus. Therefore, any failure would be localized and fully contained within the particular module where the failure occurred. This makes our technology particularly robust to run and operate.
