Solution Introduction & Details Overview:

This management solution provides an application that monitors and accounts for the number of Packets and Bytes of traffic switched by each of the monitored Routing devices. This solution application also maps between each local host and its corresponding destination set of addresses. This solution also provides an application that provides accounting information for IP traffic based on the source and destination MAC addresses on local area network (LAN) interfaces. More specifically it monitors and accounts for the number of Packets and Bytes of traffic switched by each of the monitored Routing devices.  

The main goal of the management process is to specifically count the transit (outbound) switched traffic between each detected source IP address and the corresponding destination IP address. The collected data is presented in both number of Packets and number of Bytes. Another essential goal of the management process is to specifically count the switched traffic corresponding with a specific MAC address. The collected data is presented in both number of Packets and number of Bytes.

The solution defines main and transient SOSL scripts that sets a Check Point database to be populated with the current IP Statistics from an active database maintained by the Routing device; the solution then polls the Checkpoint database for the Packets and Bytes counts for each detected source-destination IP pair. The scripts also learns the set of MAC addresses detected and on which device interface and finally on which direction of traffic associated with each detected MAC address before collecting and calculating the Packets and Bytes counts.    

The solution presentation is based on the OLD-CISCO-IP MIB and on the CISCO-IP-STATS MIB which includes the objects necessary to maintain the above described accounting statistics.
